PE6_Dreamweaver Final Product

PE5_Dreamweaver Inserting Content

Now this has gotten fun! In this element of the lessons I was able to insert background and gradients with images. I am learning more about the elements of actually creating a working website. In the next lessons I will learn how to add flash content to a website. I am excited to move on to Flash after these lessons are over.

PE4_Dreamweaver Changing CSS content

In this part of the lesson I learned how to change the appearance of my text or content. I went through a step by step process and learned more about the size in pixels of the content box. I also learned how the position the text box so that if the browser window was resized the text would stay in the same window. I learned how to set the margins to auto so that the text would always be visible on the screen no matter what size the browser window was changed to.

PE3_Dreamweaver CSS

The term CSS refers to Cascading Style Sheets. It is a language that determines the design of a website and controls all of the visuals. It is separate from the content of a page. HTML and CSS are separate codes that define a website.

As you can see in the graphic above the code for CSS is different from the basic HTML code. In the CSS code it clearly defines things like color, font and background color. Here is an example of the pop up box when changing these properties. Dreamweaver CS5 makes this all very easy without having to write any code it write it for you.

PE2_Dreamweaver HTML

In the course of learning more about Dreamweaver I had the opportunity to learn a little more about HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) which is the coding that makes websites work. The way HTML works is is uses a series of markup tags that translate into commands that allow a browser to translate the information into its proper viewing elements.

In the next part of this lesson I learned how to add content to a website and how to keep the formatting that is taken from a word document. The feature is helpful if I wanted to add APA formatting to a site that I may create for literature reviews and such. This is a feature that is not available in programs like iWeb.

As you can see in the next graphic after the text is added you can choose split view to view the HTML code on the right of your screen. Once I got down the basic elements of what a markup tag looked like I was better able to understand how I might be able to edit the appearance of how my page and text looked without having to use the edit tools located below my main window. I am more than excited to bring more to you as this develops. I am looking forward to learning how to add pictures and graphics to the design.

PE1_Dreamweaver

I am somewhat familiar with Dreamweaver CS2. I am looking forward to taking you on a short journey of my experience in learning the new features of CS5. I feel like a combination of my design abilities and my walk here with you hold an unlimited amount of possibilities. I would like to house a professional portfolio to showcase my HDR photography, design abilities, and my excitement about the transformation of the learning process. I hope to have something more concrete in my next post.

BP9_wikispaces

Wikispaces is a web 2.0 tool that can create a free space for a classroom K-12. It allows you to create a space for collaboration with students or parents. In Wikispaces you can add RSS feeds, multimedia and audio file for viewing by your audience. You can customize your wikispace with themes and colors.

Some of the benefits of having a wiki space might include: Development of interpersonal skills and problem solving. The use of teamwork. Building connections and structure for ideas and communication.

I haven't had the opportunity to use wikispaces yet but it seems as though this would be a good environment to test some things for my AR Project. I believe that the collaboration aspect of this web 2.0 tool would be super useful in my research for the right answer to my AR problem.

BP5 Liveperson

Liveperson is a site where you can post your services on the web. It covers a few choice areas including technology, counseling, education, health, arts, business and spiritually. This is a great site to research for my AR topic.

The counseling page covers a few different topics for services. Addiction counseling which is my area of interest, crisis and physical conditions, eating disorders, parenting and religious counseling. All services have fees which are determined by the individual counselor.

The education page offers tutoring in different subjects and fees are determined by the individual teachers. Some of the subjects covered include math, chemistry, life science, earth sciences and computer science.

BP4_WiZiQ

WiZiQ is a platform for online teaching. In this platform you are allowed to store and provide links to online classes that you develop. WiZiQ allows you the space for your very own virtual classroom. In this classroom this service allows for live collaboration, sharing of content and the use of You Tube videos. You are able to download your videos or host with them. You can record videos for future dates and send the links to your students. This service does track attendance which would be an excellent way to hold  accountability without actually having to be present for a lecture.

This is a paid site that has a monthly fee or a yearly fee which ever you choose to pay. I am excited about this because whatever the cost would be lower than having an office where you had to pay rent and utilities. What a great way to set up office on the web! The way they have it set up is you pay for a room to hold your class. $10 a month per room with 10 students if more students attend the monthly fee is higher, but cost effective. Really all that needs to be done is set up your account through payola and when payment is received they get the link to the class. Students do not need to sign up to attend classes. What a great way to do online tutoring because there is a live feed option! How exciting!

Build and up load your video at a later date!

Make a schedule for your classes!!
