Week 2 blog: Reading on Chapter 1-4

All rights reserved by jonglundberg

There’s an old saying “You are what you think you are” in other words, if you think you are a failure then you are a failure, if you believe you are a achiever then you are an achiever.  It’s what you believe, which controls the destiny of your life.

At the beginning of chapter one reading it used the example of a shoe factory sending out two of the scouts to examine the country of Africa.  Both viewed the same thing “no one wears shoes”, but each one of them had a different report.  One scout thought it was hopeless and the other felt it was a great opportunity.  Same situation, however, the perspective of each scout was different.

Last week I went to a “Get Motivated” seminar. There were a platform of several famous people all sharing their story on what the problem was, how they felt, and what did they did to get motivated. There were a few speakers talked about their drought moment. They felt discourage, angry, and in some cases suicidal, but some how they made a connection to God. In each case, there was a force from up above, using surrounding people as a vessel to encourage each speaker to lift their spirit up and stop dwelling on their own sorrows and realize there were others who suffered too. Although there were many speakers the one that stood out the most to me was John Walsh’s story.

For those of you who do not know John Walsh, he was the man whose son, Adam, was adducted and killed at a young age.  From that incident John and through the help of his wife and friends created American Most Wanted show.  John told the audience how he felt after hearing his son was murdered.  His wife who was devastated as well was in the garage reading bundles of letters they received from other parents who shared the same pain. Meanwhile, John was sitting in his living room entertaining thoughts about killing him.  Later, with the help of a pathologist doctor he changed his way of thinking and created the show.  The point I wanted to draw out was the fact although both John and his wife shared the same devastating news, it was their son who was murdered, the wife put her anger into reading letters of other victims and had the passion to help, whereas, at time John was only thinking of himself.

What if John commented suicide what would have happen to his wife, friends, or would there be an American Most Wanted show?  I was always told God send angels to help you through you tough time, in John’s case, that pathologist doctor was his angel.  Because of his angel, John show was a success in capturing many other criminals as well as helping others find closure. I believe, you can change a bad situation into something positive and truly will be blessed as long as you change your perspective into positive energy.

Angela,

I can so identify with a lot of what you said. comments like,"I believe, you can change a bad situation into something positive and truly will be blessed as long as you change your perspective into positive energy." drive it home for me on so many levels. I find myself watching movies like "The Secret", or reading books like "The power of intention" by Dr. Wayne Dyer and "The Book of Secrets" by Deepak Chopra. Life is an inside job! For so many people self worth is a huge issue in people becoming motivated. We carry feelings of shame and guilt around for so long. Part of my story is, I am the only person in my family to graduate college. For the longest time I let that statement hold me back from becoming more than I thought I should fit into. Thanks for sharing your insight!

WK 1 Wimba

I am so grateful to have Wimba sessions because left up to my interpretation I would be so buried deep in the woods. I have a better understanding now of what is expect of my AR website. Consistency is the key to a successful website! This basically let me know what to update and how to get my act together! I guess I didn't realize just how important this actually is. Little ole me, while I know that I have some powerful ideas I didn't fully understand the magnitude of my thought process. Yikes!

I decided to expand a little on my discussion board post for this entry. Best Notes is a content management tool we use at my company. I am in charge of Best Notes training at our facility. Best Notes has the ability to track each client individually. We track our clients based on behavior, group participation, fitness schedules, community activities, cooking class.....etc. Inside this system we also have intranet, inquiry database and the system holds all medical information as well as personal info. Best Notes is expandable and this company has tailored the functionality to suit our needs as a growing company. We load all written files into PDF format to add to the digital file as certain documents require handwritten signatures. This system also has the ability to hold grade books and assessment tools.

Queen’s World - Topic #1 Media Asset Creation Week 1

cop·y·right  [kop-ee-rahyt]   noun
1.  the exclusive right  to make copies,  license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc.: works granted such right  by law on or after January 1, 1978, are protected for the lifetime of the author or creator and for a period of 50 years after his or her death.
Quote of the day “ If you create it you have the right to protect it and legally claim it as your own.” Nathan Boehme
Hey Y’all,
This is my opinion while Nathan Boehme does a great job at explaining what a copyright is a legal term that refers to the author of an original piece of work being the sole owner of that work, which gives that person the right to re-publish or alter that work however they like.  While I do agree that copyright helps to protect the rights of the creator, I do find that there are times that this infringes on Freedom of speech.  It is a very thin line.
The use of todays technology makes it difficult to identify who was the original author of work with minor changes one can make it their own.  I find it interesting that copyright is not looked at like flattery, if the correct attribute is provided.
I love to hear your comments.

I have to say YES it is a fine line. I am an artist. With that being said if I were to have someone use my images in an ad for a company or for profit business with out my permission I would be a little more than upset. Or lets say for someone to use my ideas as their own YES I would be a little more than upset. I am currently walking that thin line with the company I work for. They want my input but however they haven't settled the legal side of that yet. Every so often I get asked questions about what my ideas are. I am very cautious as to what information I provide them. Why? Because if they have no intention on moving me forward I want to reserve the right to use my ideas else where. They know and I know that my input could set them apart from many companies that provide similar services. As long as its still in my head its still my intellectual property.

Is It Really Yours?

By GanjaVandal

When I watched the copyright fair rights video it got me to think about when I was working on my undergraduate degree.  My concentrated area was in Electronic Arts. In my typographic class there was a project that was required to do on photographing different font on building in our environment.  That mean it could be graffiti, ancient font off of church building or modern signs it did not matter where we found it as long as it was interesting.  After retrieving that resource, then we were required to duplicate our images and transfer it into one of the programs that we using to draw.  There was twigging to make it our own style, and then we critique the outcome.  I often wondering was that work of art was true our own or did we just take advantage of the original artist who simply did not know their rights and a dead artist who could not speak up for themselves. Which ever the case may be, I personal did not feel I had the right to claim something that I duplicated from another person work.

Copyright Issues

Fortunately I have had to learn and deal with copyright issues in the past. I have a BFA and in doing multiple projects that deal with a wide array of commercial and personal images.  I also understand copyright to be very personal to me as an artist. As a graphic designer however more often than not I have had to deal with a lot of pictures that sometimes accounted for a large portion of my hard drive space. Most of the time in a company setting that requires some pictorial representation these companies will invest in buying the rights to use images from places like Getty, istock and Corbis just to name a few.

The above image is an image created by hand (not digitally) which was inspired by a magazine ad. This drawing is a good example of how we can become creative with the images we see without using the actual copyrighted image.
